We're told stories. We think we know the truth, but all we ever really know are the stories, the borrowed knowledge of someone else telling us what they heard from another. We react as though we know, but our reaction is just a reflection of the ego, an illusion based solely within our self.
We're taught to defend our perceptions when challenged, to seek out confirmation of our perspective, and sink deeper into our bias.
There is always enough evidence to support a preconceived conclusion, regardless of it's truth.
If we aren't able to challenge our beliefs, if we refuse to hear anything that doesn't agree with what we've already been taught to believe, we will never escape the division and violence of the cycles we're trapped within.
